   Playing Rush Hour
Students enjoy the challenge of a Rush Hour classroom strategy lesson.
Greetings everyone, and welcome to 2009! There is no question the world is changing ever more rapidly, and this is going to be an exciting year for many reasons. If there ever was a time to teach problem solving and higher order thinking skills to prepare your students for the future, this is it.

With this newsletter, I am thrilled to announce our first official ThinkFun Brain Lab project... our new Rush Hour Brain Lab! This program allows you to purchase sets of 4 Rush Hour games packaged for classroom use and offered at a great price ($50 for four games). Along with this, we provide a whole set of free classroom and center resource Rush Hour games that specifically teach problem solving skills. This is really a great program!

A single play experience is worth a thousand words, so I will simply leave you with this challenge... try these two online Rush Hour Minimum Spaces games and see how well you do. If you find them challenging and fun, consider what you students will think.

Try these simple challenges first. Each has only three blocking vehicles...

Feeling confident now? Give a try to these slightly harder challenges, each with four blocking vehicles...

The Rush Hour Brain Lab program engages students through the fun of game play and teaches them how to think through the challenges and become successful problem solvers. I encourage you to explore our Rush Hour Brain Lab program and consider bringing this to your classroom!

Best, Bill

Happy New Year
Charlotte Fixler is the Education and Curriculum Specialist at ThinkFun Inc.

Welcome back from what we hope was a wonderful and restful holiday break! The ThinkFun Education Team is looking forward to an exciting 2009, and we are excited to kick off the year with the launch of our very first Brain Lab program developed around our bestselling Rush Hour game!

Student perseveres
A student perseveres through a difficult Rush Hour challenge.
Rush Hour has been a classroom favorite for years, and with our new Brain Lab program, we aim to build on the natural excitement of a Rush Hour play experience to teach students the fundamentals of problem solving in an intentional and most importantly fun learning environment!

The Rush Hour Brain Lab Pack comes with a set of 4 of our best selling Rush Hour games packaged especially for the classroom, plus our fantastic new Super Solvers poster! This poster features the Super Solvers, child superheroes who reveal the 3 S's of Problem Solving using student-friendly language.

The Rush Hour Brain Lab program teaches students to evaluate a challenge, answer the question "What is the problem?," and develop strategies to solve the specific problems they’ve identified. The program includes PDF downloads for six different Rush Hour classroom games that focus on cooperative play, competitive play, creating and evaluating challenges, and optimizing Rush Hour challenges. In combination with the Rush Hour game, this Brain Lab offers a full year’s worth of material for your students, so whether you’re able to purchase a single Pack or several, Rush Hour Brain Lab will fit your particular teaching needs!

With ThinkFun Brain Lab, children learn lifelong problem solving skills in a way that is both fun and meaningful — what more could a teacher ask for?
